At Wholeview, we use an individualized approach to treating gaming disorders. This involves a combination of psychological therapies, pharmacological treatments, and support systems. The most extensively studied and evidence-based psychological intervention for gaming disorders is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which aims to explore and modify the thoughts and behaviors associated with gaming addiction. CBT is effective both as a standalone treatment and is enhanced when combined with other approaches such as Mindfulness and CRAFT Family Training.

Group therapy may also be recommended to provide a supportive environment where individuals can share experiences and develop coping strategies. Group therapy can play a crucial role in the recovery process from gaming by providing emotional support and helping to rebuild social connections that may have been neglected due to excessive gaming. We have an Executive Functioning Group, called Ready, Set Go, which aims to improve executive functioning with a goal of helping individuals better manage their gaming habits by enhancing their ability to resist gaming urges, prioritize other activities, and regulate their emotions more effectively.

There are no FDA-approved medications for gaming disorders, but we will screen for and treat co-morbid psychological disorders that commonly occur along with gaming disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, and depression. By treating these co-morbid conditions, we can indirectly reduce gaming behavior.
