James Benton, Ph.D.
Dr. Jim Benton is a clinical psychologist with over 25 years of experience. He specializes in the treatment of substance use disorders, and gambling disorders with expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), medication-assisted treatment, and chronic pain.
Dr. Benton received a doctoral degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the City University of New York and completed a postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is a licensed psychologist and the Director of Psychology Training at the Brattleboro Retreat, a private psychiatric and substance use treatment hospital in New England. He established the behavioral medicine and outpatient psychological testing services at the Brattleboro Retreat. Dr. Benton was previously an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a Clinical Manager of substance use treatment at Montefiore. Before this, Dr. Benton was a management consultant and business executive, most recently as a Director of the Talent and Organization Strategy practice of Accenture, a global management consulting firm.
